What Is PLR - Private Label Rights And How You Can Benefit From Them

If this is your first time here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed.

PLR stands for Private Label Rights and can be found all over the internet offered to you in several different ways. When you purchase anything that comes with private label rights, that gives you the right to alter that product anyway you see fit and sell it yourself. You can simply change the name of the product, add your name to it and resell it. You can reword the content, add your own to it and resell it again. You even have the right to just give the product away as a bonus offer to your visitors.

PLR products are great for anyone new to internet marketing.  In most cases you will not have the resources, time or even knowledge of creating a product on your own.  Being able to modify a PLR product you purchased is an easy way to get your feet wet.  I know some of you are thinking this is a cheap way out, or it will never work.  You need to think about it from a beginners standpoint, one with no knowledge of design, creating a sales pitch, decent content or even how to make a .pdf file.  Everyone has to start from somewhere, other people just start a few steps ahead of others.

When purchasing something with private label rights, you can be getting just a simple ebook or a complete marketing package.  A complete marketing package could include the following:

  1. Ebook - In most cases this is the core product of the PLR package.  It contains the information you either want to sell or just give away.  Ebooks can come in all different sizes depending on the niche or how well in depth the author wants to go.
  2. Sales Letter - In order to assist you sell the product, some PLR packages will come with it’s very own sales letter for you to use.  I suggest modifying this sales letter so it is not identical to what other people are using.  It would look pretty bad if you sent out a sales letter that someone already received in the past and realized it is the same thing.  This can throw your credibility completely out of the window.
  3. Website - Having a functioning website come with the PLR package is a huge bonus for someone new to internet marketing with little or no design experience.  The hard part is already done for you and you can upload a site right out of the box.  Once again though I recommend you alter the text that came with the PLR product so it is not identical to other sites.  If twenty people who bought the PLR package all used the site, you would have duplicate content running rampant and can see a penalty from the search engines for that.  Changing the text around to make it your own is a must, all you really care about is the free design.  If you are not comfortable in writing your own text for the site, then you can always outsource content writing for a fairly cheap price.
  4. Graphic Images - These can be images used on the website itself or a 3D box graphic of the ebook.  You have seen them before, it looks like a box or even a book that is three dimensional with shading and drop shadows.  If you have never done graphic design before, these will be just fine when either selling or just giving away your product.  If you change the name of the ebook, chances are you will have to change the name on the graphic images that came with the PLR product.  DO NOT forget to do this, outsource it if you have to.  It can be done for as little as $5 on freelance websites.
  5. Articles - Article marketing is an inexpensive way to get your product out to the general public in a fair amount of time.  Some authors will give you an article or even a set of them for you to use when marketing your product.  Once again though you will want to edit these articles as to avoid any duplicate content issues.  If you do not understand what I mean when I keep say duplicate content, let me know and I will address it in another post.

A private label rights product does not always have to be an ebook.  Technically it could be anything created on a computer that you are giving permission to edit, sell or even give away.  Examples of different types of private label rights material could be the following:

  1. Ebook
  2. Article Package
  3. Special Report
  4. Software
  5. Application Scripts
  6. Complete Websites

After you have bought your PLR product, let’s take a look at the different ways you can utilize them to benefit you better.

  1. Resell It - Plain as it sounds, edit the content slightly and just resell it.  If you are new to marketing and are looking for an easy way to get started, chances are this is the route you will take.  There is no promise it will work, this depends on the niche you are in as well as how you are marketing it.
  2. Bonus Offer - If you already have a product you are selling, adding a PLR product as a free bonus is a great sales tactic used by many successful marketers.  There is nothing wrong with spending a little money on a PLR product to just give it away.  You have to think the other way around, if you did not invest a little money into this product, how many sales would you have lost by not offering it as a bonus to your existing product?
  3. Free Gift - If you have a newsletter, getting new subscribers can be a little difficult at times.  Offering to give away the PLR product by just subscribing to your newsletter is a great way to get more signups.  People love free stuff, especially when they can have almost instant access to it.  Yes some of the people who sign up only want the book, then they will unsubscribe.  Others however will stay on your list, which you can then send them whatever information you like or even up sell them on another product.
  4. Auto Responder Content - If you run an auto responder, purchasing a PLR article package is an easy way to have content sent to your subscribers.  You could send the articles to your subscribers right out of the box, however I suggest changing the content up so it is not identical to the same articles that other’s are giving out or even submitting to article directories.

With this information, it is up to you as to how you want to act upon it.  You have several scenarios and avenues to take, only you can choose which one it will be.  There is no guarantee it will work for you, that comes down to how you market the product.  In the end, you could always create your own product and resell it with private label rights.
